My Story

Hello, I'm Christien Olivera, a Harlem-born and Bronx-raised individual, proudly embracing my Puerto Rican heritage. My venture into the realm of dance commenced at the age of 14, marking the onset of a profound and transformative journey. Over the years, I've been fortunate to dance with esteemed companies such as Unified Dance Company, Framboyan Dance Company, Zafire Dance Project, Ascenso Latino, Empire Mambo, and El Corillo del Mambo.

As I pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor's degree at the University of New Haven, my passion for dance continued to grow. Winning First Place in Youth/Adult Amateur Cabaret competitions marked a significant milestone in my dance journey. Returning to New York City for my Master's degree reignited my connection with the dance community.

In 2023, I felt a deep calling to contribute to the salsa community and provide a welcoming space for dancers of all levels. This led to the creation of Acacia Latin Dance Company. Acacia, a symbol of adaptability and resilience, represents my commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for dancers in Connecticut.

My teaching philosophy revolves around the transformative power of salsa, aiming to bring people together, transcend barriers, and create a sense of unity. Acacia Latin Dance Company caters to individuals of all ages, from children to adults, providing a haven for expression, growth, and camaraderie.

Dance, for me, has been more than a form of expression—it has been a source of mental, spiritual, and physical well-being. It has been my anchor in navigating challenging environments, especially during my time in the Bronx. Now, residing in Connecticut, I am dedicated to sharing this positive influence with the community through Acacia Latin Dance Company. It stands as a testament to my resilience, self-discovery, and commitment to building a legacy of joy and unity through the captivating art of salsa.
