ABOUT ACACIA LATIN DANCE COMPANY

Rooted in Rhythm. Powered by Community.

Acacia Latin Dance Company began with one salsa class and a simple, heartfelt goal: to create a space where people could connect, grow, and truly belong.

Christien Olivera grew up in New York City surrounded by salsa and bachata—it was part of who he was. When he moved to Hartford in 2022, he quickly realized the dance scene here felt smaller, quieter, and missing the energy he was used to. The spark he once had seemed harder to find.

But instead of waiting for change, Christien decided to be the change.

He started teaching one salsa class. Slowly, more dancers showed up—talented performers, beginners, people searching for connection and joy. The studio filled with laughter, effort, and the kind of energy only dance can bring.

Performance teams took shape, socials brought the community together, and after two sold-out events filled with music and smiles, it was clear: Acacia was more than just a dance company. It was a family, a community where confidence grew and friendships blossomed.

Today, Acacia Latin Dance Company teaches primarily Salsa On2 and Bachata with a thoughtful, syllabus-based approach that helps dancers truly understand the music, concepts, the rhythm, and the movement—not just follow steps.

WHAT WE DO

Acacia Latin Dance Company is committed to providing comprehensive Latin dance training and building a supportive community in Hartford, Connecticut. Our programs are designed to meet dancers where they are and help them grow technically and personally.

Adult Salsa and Bachata Classes: We offer structured, syllabus-based classes focused primarily on salsa on2, designed for all skill levels—from beginners to advanced dancers. Bachata is offered as an open-level course, welcoming dancers of all experience levels to enjoy and explore the dance at their own pace. Both styles emphasize connection, musicality, and expression in a fun and engaging environment.

Youth Dance Company: Our youth program nurtures young dancers with a strong foundation in Latin dance. Through age-appropriate syllabus instruction, performance opportunities, and mentorship, we inspire the next generation to grow both as artists and individuals.

Performance Teams: Led by Artistic Director Christien Olivera and team coach Mike Garcia, our performance teams consist of dedicated, talented dancers who represent Acacia at community events, cultural festivals, and showcases throughout the region. These teams develop technique, artistry, teamwork, discipline, and stage presence.

Syllabus-Based Training Focused on Salsa on2: Acacia emphasizes a concept-driven approach centered on salsa on2. Our syllabus breaks down rhythm, timing, footwork, styling, and partner connection, enabling dancers to internalize the dance and perform with confidence and understanding.

Community and Culture: Beyond dance technique, Acacia fosters an inclusive and welcoming environment where dancers build skills, confidence, and lasting friendships. Our socials, workshops, and events provide opportunities to connect and celebrate the culture and joy of Latin dance.
